Boiled wool is a compact, structured cloth with a weight and a feel unlike the recycled wool or cotton throws: it does not drape softly, it holds its shape, which makes it right as a decorative bedcover or as an armchair blanket that stays where it is put. Boiled wool

Boiled wool is wool that has been fulled: the cloth is worked with hot water, soap and mechanical pressure until the fibres close on each other. What comes out is a dense panel that does not fray at the edge and needs no hem. It has a firmer hand than ordinary wool, holds its shape over time and wears better. The 20% polyester stabilises the cloth, stopping it shrinking in the wash and keeping the jacquard relief defined. It is the Tuscan blanket cloth, worked in the Prato district for centuries.

The palm pattern

The palm leaves are raised through jacquard weaving. The drawing is stylised rather than photographic, and reads as a decorative pattern that sits as easily in a Mediterranean or colonial room as in a contemporary one. The jacquard relief adds a dimension a flat print does not have: you feel it under your fingers. A tropical motif is a less conventional choice than the checks and solids elsewhere in the catalogue, for a piece meant to be noticed.

Four colours, four moods

Beige and Grey are the neutrals, easy to place anywhere. Sage picks up the botanical note of the pattern and sits well with natural wood and linen. Orange is the decisive one, a warm accent that makes the blanket the subject of the room.
