A boiled wool blanket with a raised floral motif drawn from the fleur de lis, the heraldic emblem of Florence and of Tuscany. Same working as the Palms and the Pansy, boiled wool with polyester, 150 by 190 cm. The lily carries a stronger symbolism than a palm or a pansy, tied to the territory and to a Renaissance decorative tradition.

The lily, a Tuscan emblem

The fleur de lis has been the symbol of Florence since the twelfth century and is one of the most recognisable decorative motifs in Tuscany. It appears in its architecture, its ceramics and its furnishing cloth. Here it is worked in jacquard relief, a pattern that joins a Tuscan decorative tradition to boiled wool, itself rooted in the Prato district. It is a piece that tells you where it comes from in every centimetre.

Boiled wool

Boiled wool is wool that has been fulled: the cloth is worked with hot water, soap and mechanical pressure until the fibres close on each other. What comes out is a dense panel that does not fray at the edge and needs no hem. It has a firmer hand than ordinary wool, holds its shape over time and wears better. The 20% polyester stabilises the cloth, stopping it shrinking in the wash and keeping the jacquard relief defined. It is the Tuscan blanket cloth, worked in the Prato district for centuries.
